iPod Touch Review (2nd Gen)

After achieving much fame and success with its 1st generation iPod touch, Apple unveiled its 2nd Generation iPod touch on 9th September 2008, which  is available in 3 capacities, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. Not only is the new iPod thinner than its predecessor but also much faster as it’s equipped with a 533 MHz CPU in comparison with its predecessor’s 412 MHZ CPU. Some even claim this processor performs much better than the iPhone 3G. Having dimensions of 4.3×2.4×0.33 inches and weighing 4.05 ounces, this music player feels much better in the hand with its gracefully rounded metallic back.

The 2nd Gen iPod touch is par excellence . Its external volume buttons towards the top left  provide volume adjustment without unlocking the screen, thus offering a lot of convenience. For the first time, Apple has introduced the concept of a  built-in speaker with this iPod; a concept similar to the iPhone. This enables music  lovers to share and enjoy their favourite songs, videos amongst friends.

Along with Wi-Fi, this gadget comes pre- loaded with useful applications such as the Safariweb browser, YouTube, and Google Maps. However, the most important feature of the 2nd Gen iPod is the availability of Bluetooth. Furthermore, Apple has announced that the iPhone OS 3.0 update will unlock Bluetooth capability on the second generation iPod Touch, as the included Wi-Fi chip (Broadcom BCM4325) has Bluetooth and FM Radio support. This will provide music lovers the benefit of hearing music via their favourite Bluetooth enabled earphones.

Even though it’s thinner, this iPod offers much better battery life than the original, with 36 hours of audio or six hours of video playback. (The 1st Gen offered audio of 22 hours or video playback of 5 hours)

To conclude, this iPod offers a complete  package to its users and is worth every penny spent on it thus making it the Music Player of the year in my opinion.

The following items come bundled along with the iPod Touch

  • iPod touch
  • Earphones
  • USB 2.0 cable
  • Dock adapter
  • Polishing cloth
  • Quick Start guide
