512 PC133 SDRAM

PC133, a SDRAM type of memory modules, are available in 512 MB capacity as 512MB PC133 SDRAM in the market. Since about last 20 years till middle of 90’s DRAM was the most preferred RAM memory being used with computer. This was despite of the fact that the concept of synchronized RAM was there since 1970. JEDEC the association of electronic goods manufacturer, in 1993 laid down the specification for SDRAM and since then the SDRAM has replaced the DRAM type of memory.

DRAM type works asynchronously and thus are faster when seen with SDRAM memory which works in synchronously with clock. It means the chip will wait for clock signal to accept command and to process it. It also uses concept of queuing which allow reading of data / command for its execution while the chip is processing execution of previous command / data. This introduces delay or commonly called parameter latency. However, the real advantage of SDRAM came from its ability to exploit multiple banks of memory for interleaving operation and thereby achieving higher data transfer rate.

The SDRAM has 64bit wide bus and operates at 133 MHz clock and thus capable of providing the bandwidth of 1064MB/s. The 512MB PC133 SDRAM is available in both DIMM and SODIMM packages and comes in 168 and 144 pin configuration respectively. It is designed to work at 133 MHz speed of clock and is backward compatible with the PC100, the slower version of SDRAM which work at 100 MHz. It uses 3.3V potential for its operation. 512MB PC133 SDRAM is the fastest SDRAM module with 512MB capacity.
